Hey guys, and girls tongue.gif
I was wondering how much work it was to build a tank. I wanna build one thats two metres across and one metre high. (Yes i know, it sounds very extreme).
Can anyone tell me how much work, money this will take?
And just how do i go about making a tank? Are there any good sites?

On the left side, there is a spot down the list-DIY section. Click
on it and then do the tank section. You can choose your type
of material.

fantailfan did the plywood method. He might have some tips
for doing one. smile.gif

i dont know the cost of materials in new zealand, but the plywood method is dirt cheap here. so far, my home made tank has stood up to six months with water, draining, then moving, and refilling. its a simple build, and eminantly satisfying.

with the depth you want, you would have to use half inch thick glass, and bracing at the top probably every half meter. ( if i were building it i would actually have four braces, because i like to over do structural strength)

if there is anything i can help with, feel free to PM me.

plywood method is the bottom, back and two short sides are made from epoxy sealed wood, and only glass in front. sheet glass is expensive to buy by itself, and cost prohibitive. i have found its cheaper to buy a pre-made large scale tank if you want it to be made from all glass. my 130 gallon tank cost just under 50 dollars to build, with the one side of glass accounting for over half the cost of the total tank.
