Hi everyone, I have a tank with two female fantails and six males. The animals are all three years old now except one boy and they are going wild. One of my girls laid her eggs in all the chasing but my other little girl is behind a tank divider because of a swim bladder problem and one of the others chewed on her tail so shes healing. What my question is does my girl behind the divider need to be with boys to lay her eggs or will they come out on there own with no encouragement. I don't want her to get hurt with her swim bladder and tail problem but I also don't want her to become egg bound. I'm confused please someone help.

males are a neccessity in breeding biggrin.gif
you need the male fish to fertilise the egg
if the male isn't present you probably wont get eggs and also
if you do get eggs they will go bad and fungus will grow on them
it is neccesary to remove eggs with fungus or else it will spread to
the other eggs(they are the white ones)
before introducing the male goldfish, you should make sure
the female is in top condition
otherwise she could get severely injured by 6 males

I want to thank you for responding. So I have got to put her with a boy to get her to lay. My mom came up with a good idea she told me that if Flo does have to be with a boy to release her eggs just put one boy with her in the divided area of the tank that way she won't get swarmed. One of my boys named Herb has a thing for her, hes always loving on her before I put her behind the divider and is pretty gentle so I guess I'll put him in there with her. Thank you again for responding. wav.gif

make sure the mal you add is about the same size or smaller
if he is too large, again he could accidently injure her
i use to have a small comet about two inch who was killed because
my 5inch comet tried to mate with her
i wasnt at home then, my cousin was looking after my fish
so nowdays i am quiet careful when i breed
so i will advise you to check up on your fish now and then
just in case the male is too agressive
and i hope everything works out smile.gif
also remember to post the pics up of the babies
i want to see them biggrin.gif
