idd.gif My friend, Sue, she had this idea that when your goldfish lays eggs, before this cycle happens, you could add a layer of jems or glass rocks to your aquarium. This way the eggs would then find a way under them so that the parents wouldn’t eat them. Would this work? I don’t think it would because 1. You couldn’t tell when a egg or a couple of the eggs had fungus 2. Don’t the eggs attach to everything, plants, decorations, etc. 3. When the eggs hatch, the parents would eat them?! Anyway, just an idea.

i dont think it will work
my goldfish spend some time searching for food
at the bottom of the tank
even if they cant directly get the egg
the can still get it with the powerful vacuum
effect from their mouth

Using plants is much better because they
provide places to hide for the fry

They might hatch and even be able to hide in the plants, but I'll bet the filter would get them sooner or later unsure.gif

I have glass beads/gems in the tank Whitie layed eggs in, and I did not find any eggs on or under the beads.

But that might be because I have a Weather Loach that LOVES wub.gif goldfish eggs, maybe he cleaned them all out yawn.gif

LOL! Their is a yawing icon in my post above, I did not mean to put that there.....maybe it is a hint for me to get to bed?

Good luck everyone

Jessica and Slippery is right. It's hard to hide things from them. Afterall, it's their house.

Putting in plants, artificial or live is the easiest.
As soon as you notice eggs have been laid and fertalized, move them to another tank (or bucket) with about 6" of water taken from the fish tank.
Keep the water temperature same as tank they came from.
The eggs that look clear are the good ones. The white ones are not.
In 96 hours the eggs will hatch.

That's what I thought. Thanks for all for your posts!
