i have no clue how to join the tubing but as for the air stone, well first, what size are you thinking about? i mean, for the little ones i suppose you could use a peice of sponge somehow attached but as they are only like $1 it'd probably be easier to buy one.

chelsea is right. you can get airstones rather cheaply. they work MUCH better than a home-made job! you can join the two peices of tubing with a pen tube that is small or big enough to push the airlines into each end. you may have to fish around for something though. why not get a joiner from the same place that you would a bubble stone? you could get both for less than 2 dollars! of course, youll need a pump to push the air into the stone!
hope this helps

Well, the only literally homemade thing that I found barely works is a baloon with many, many, many holes in it attached to the air hose. I'm no DIY expert.

Lately I've changed over to plastic airstones. They only cost $2 Au. and you can take them apart to clean if required. (unscrew the segments) I found that the normal run of the mill stones disintegrated after several months.
I have also toyed with the idea of making my own, just for the sake of tinkering. I 'm thinking along the line of a bundle of plasic washers perhaps held loosely together with a long plastic bolt. If three or four grooves are cut along the length of the bolt (the threaded part) a plastic nut can still hold the washers in place and if the airline is then slipped over the remaining shank of the bolt the air should travel through the grooves cut along the shank and out between the plastic washers.
I estimate the labour costs to be about $100Aus, however who can put a price on tinkering? (Especially if you can get the wife to mow the lawns).

you make 1 from getting a sponge and poke a hollow hole into it fill the hole with a straw and attatch the tubing into it and your done...(Use stronge durable straws)

Yea to reiterate ....

just plug one end of tubeing and then take a needel and pook thousands of holes into the tubeing and then pump it with air and the bubles will pop out the holes like prarie dogs...

well for a 10 inch bubble wall you could do it with not much work by just useing a bigger needle in tubing and doing one whole 1 cm apart for 10 inches. you get bigger bubbles and a decent wall... if anyone trys this pm me or i might try it

cheers

hey lepperchan ive made another one today for my Quaratine/hospital tank it runs along the whole back of it for greater circulation since its for sick/ quaratined fish. it was hard work putting all the holes in but it was worth while seeing it work lol i used a small needle so it took for ever but it gives the bubbles more surface area to more oxygen is passed to the water i think

i think that is a GREAT idea. Sealing the end with sealent. then poking holes all in it. Sounds like it would be so pretty!, And with it being clear wouldnt notice it very much cept for the bubbles, Their MY bubbles LOL ~
