Full Version: Bushy Plants And Cleaning
Forum > The Goldfish Topics > Goldfish Tanks > Goldfish plants, & how to set up a planted tank

I've been wanting to add some bushy plants to one side of my tank for a while now. One thought is bugging me though. If say.. a 12x12 portion of my tank bottom is covered in plants like java moss or hornwort, how can I clean the area there? Will I _need_ to clean the area there? I use a gravel vac to syphon the water and settled waste, but I'm not sure how that would work with a well planted area. Any suggestions?

Wow!!

Anyone have experience with riccia fluitans? How are they with goldfish?

That plant is very hard to take care of and goldfish would tare it to shreds rofl3.gif

As for the planting of plants. I just to a gravel siphon and then just plant away. Then with water changes I don't move them I just gravel siphon around them and once in a while dig deep with the siphon around them and get the junk up. smile.gif

I haven't mastered the art of gravel cleaning yet rofl3.gif I keep knocking the anacharis out from the gravel sad.gif

Oh thats an easy plant to do that with since it really doesnt have a root system. The other ones will and its much harder to move them hah.gif

Any websites selling plants that you like? I haven't been able to find anything nice and bushy yet in my area.

I've been looking for java moss for a while. All I can find is java fern. <_<

Have you seen the photos of my tank in the back there thats my moss. You need a log of some size to hook them on to. There great cover for the goldfish and yep they do like to nibble. but it grows fast smile.gif

I got my java moss by accident. It came as a little strand attached onto a bigger plant. Luckily, I recognized it and I have some big clumps of it now. It does grow fast biggrin.gif And seems extremely tough. It will grow in the corners of the tanks where others things don't want to grow.
