Sparkle my bubble eye has had dropsy for over a month now, she's been on metromeds for that long too. She keeps going from worse to better to worse again, etc. Right now she's super bloated again. I doubt she'll ever recover from this. She's still eating but doesnt seem too happy. She's a fighter but I dont think she'll win this fight. For the past week I've been debating wether I should euthanize her or not. I love that little fishie so much, I dont want her to die, but I also dont want her to suffer, wat do u guys think? :cry1

That's always such a tough decision to make. I work in an animal shelter and see people struggling with that kind of choice all the time. My heart goes out to you -- it's SUCH a tough call to make.

For myself, I look at the quality of the animal/fish's life. If it's mostly bad or painful, with little chance to recover, I typically opt for euthanasia. It's too hard to watch an animal struggling and in pain, knowing that they'll only have brief periods of happiness. When the bad very much outweighs the good, for me, it's time to let go.

If shes not responding to the food, maracyn2 or the heat and salt mix and has been like this, This means she wont be able to pull out, the kidneys are to damaged to keep water out of her system. Im sorry hun, but with that thought you know what would be best for her :cry

thx for the support guys, she's been spending some time upside down again so yesterday I made the decision that I will euthanize her. I havent done it yet, but will later :cry1 . Poor little Sparkle, she's so bloated, I think its probably too late to save her anyway no matter what I would try, she must have some organ damage by now. I hate dropsy, I dont even know how she got it :(.
