I currently have a 20 gal and 29 gal with Ryukins and Ranchus , I would love to put them all together in a one tank .the 20 gal is overcrowed due to 3 ryukin babies with an Adult .
I have heard that Ryukins harrass other Goldies . Is this true? I would love to get one big tank .

Hello Mrs. Shirley!

In my experience, ryukins are quite pushovers when it comes to foods as they can see the foods much better than ranchus with heavy wen growths do. I separated my ryukins from my lionhead and ranchu because Julian and Loco were being outcompeted for food by the rest so I made the decision to stop it already since the ryukins are hogging all the foods like vacuum cleaners as quickly as the foods fall. Even my black oranda could not compete well as his wen growth obscures his vision a bit. If I were you, I'd keep them separated unless your ranchus have less wen growth at the moment and therefore can compete very well with the ryukins.:)

It may take some extra work but you can definitely keep them together. You may need to work it out that you are feeding at two ends of the tank, or hand feeding, if you are worried about the ryukin hogging the food. But there is no reason ryukin and ranchu should be housed separately. I have had both in the same tank with no problems.

Yep. I have an oranda and a ryukin together. Personality wise they are fine together but i have to hand feed my oranda or she wood starve. The ryukin sucks up everything that floats down. No matter how far he is from it he will see it.

I keep 2 orandas with 3 ryukins and a black moor, they all live in perfect harmony but I have to watch at feeding time to make sure the orandas and moor get enough.

Hi Lupin !!

My ranchus have minimal headgrowth , I have to make sure Chance and Sandy get enough food, Tattoo and Big Papi are as fast as lighting and gobble up everything . Big Papi is a baby ! Two tanks are probably best. Thanks
