Since it is extremely difficult to find a veterinarian that is knowledgeable in fish care, and willing enough to give our swimming friends proper treatment, not to mention so badly needed medication, here is the spot to go.
If you happen to have such a rare treasure in your neighborhood, please let us know about it. The list will be periodically updated and eventually categorized in States and countries. List the vet's details as followed:

Name:
Street address
City, state, zip:
Country, where applicable:
Phone#:
email/website:

Any posts not containing vet listings will be deleted...
I hope that over time we will have a nice resource of vets for other fish keepers in need. :)
Thanks! :thumb:

Starting off with a vets office that Mkinga has mentioned in a recent post....

Welborn Pet Hospital
7860 Washington Ave.
Kansas City, KS 66112
Tel. (913)-334-6770
Website: http://welbornpet.com/

Thanks, Mkinga! There is an extremely interesting follow up on a goldfish surgery, documented with pics... :o

Okay - here's Dr. Tepper, for folks in the tristate area:

Dr. Julius M. Tepper
Shirley Veterinary Hospital
1010 Montauk Highway
Shirley, NY 11967-2118
631-281-8820

Dr. Tepper treats everybody (that is, all types of critters), but has specialized in reptiles, amphibians, and fish. There are a couple of other vets in NY who will treat fish, but they are even further off.

Hi Everyone, Sorry I've been invisible for so long. I'm very involved in cat rescue and feral colonies and I've increased my tanks as well. When I had to take a litter of kittens with 'flat chested kitten syndrome' to a specialist in Hartford over a year ago, I asked them for fish vet references and they wrote out this list. It does not give all the information required above, but it does give name and phone number. Hopefully that will help. They are all located in Connecitcut.

H. Bauman - 860-889-1387

Salvatore Frasca - 860-486-1138

Allys Maybahk - 860-653-3353

Thomas Milos - 203-378-8276

Louis B. Pepier - 203-378-0687

John Rebb - 203-743-4521

Nicholas Sitiras - 203-762-2002

Everett Vreelara - 860-868-2741

When I get time, I'll try to contact each of them to verify that they are fish vets and to get addresses, and update this list.

Okay, here comes another one. This is a recommendation from a goldfish judge, so he must be good.

Dr. Chris Shirkley
Chicagoland area (Sorry, thats all I know)
(815) 922-3566

Dr. Chris does house calls as well, and apparently is looking to expand his clientele base... :)

Our vet made us famous - Granny is THE FIRST goldfish (Ryunkin) to have had a cancerous tumor removed by laser surgery. We have been interviewed by the New York Times Magazine and appeared on Nova Science Now for our work with goldfish. He's really awesome and is "on call" to his patients 24/7. We've had 4 different fish treated over the years for various ailments big and small...

Anybody know of a vet who handles goldfish in South East London? I'm looking for one either in or near Lewisham if anybody knows any.

I don't particularly need a vet at the moment but it's handy to know if there's one nearby just in case...

This one is in Georgia (Athens area), and I originally found him at a reptile expo.

Dr. Stephen Divers
Veterinary Hospital Athens, connected to the
College of Vet. medicine GA
(706)542-3221
http://www.vet.uga.e...xoticsServices/

Dr. Divers is one of the best in the reptile field, but due to his work at the university also does a wide range of other animals, including fish and zoo animals.

I am new to this forum having joined when the only fish vet in my area retired. Dr. Eric Westheimer, Goleta, CA, is no longer practicing veterinary medicine. I am discovering how difficult it is to get a pet hospital to take pet fish owners seriously. My local pet shop was helpful but I'm not confident of the diagnosis. The symptoms one of my veiltail goldfish has is that its tail is showing white spots. I know what ich is and this is not ich. The spots are small and round and stick up a little... and they are spreading. At the pet shop, I was given tetracycline as the store owner thought it sounded like columnaris. But without a fish vet, how can I be sure? The fish lives with one other goldfish in an Eclipse System 12 (12 gallon bio filtered system). I tested the water: no ammonia, nitrite, nitrates and ph is a little high (8.0) but given the fish's condition, I didn't want to acidify the water. I salted the water. Did 20% water changes every other day for several weeks but still the spots are spreading. Right now they are still on the tail so I want to catch the disease before it spreads to vital areas. I moved the other fish to a separate tank and started the tetracycline treatment today. Does anyone know of any fish vets in San luis obispo, Santa Barbara, or Ventura county California? I'm willing to travel as far as the Los Angeles area to get a proper diagnosis.
Thank you for your help.
