Have you started a topic in the disease/diagnosis section? I think that is probably the best thing to do now and try to answer as many questions as possible in the 'red box' so people have all the information needed to give you advice.

Here's the link: New topic in 911
It sounds like your fish have parasites and they may need something more than salt so if you could, please start a new thread and answer as many of the questions from the box in the reply section - you'll get more help there :D
Edit: Annette and i answered at the same time :)

can't tell you how your post has made it come
together for me to be able to chat with
my fish keeper, that's really the scary part
is telling somebody so they know what
you know. And know what you mean to tell
them.
-This post is awesome and ty again for all your

Im from a place called Mangalore in india, and we have just 2 local fish pet shops. And their stocks leave a lot to be desired. Whenevr we buy a new fish chances that its got an infection is 90% and that it will die in a week 50%. Cruel, i know. But thats how ignorance goes. There is just one 'blue medicine' which i suspect is methylene blue, for almost all problems. So in the past for fish lice i used to use either salt or remove it manually.
Ive known some of my friends to break a capsule of an antibiotic and dissolve it in water as a remedy for sick fish. They tell me it works, but i've never tried it.
Would it work if i dissolved Praziquantel which we get in the pharmacy and add it to the water as prophylaxis or treatment of fish parasites? If yes, what should be the percentage. And also, how do i calculate the amount of salt?

You've posted your query on a pinned thread (which is less likely to be seen regularly), which is for guidance really. I recommend starting your own thread in the diagnosis and discusion forum (hit the new topic button)
http://www.kokosgold...hp?showforum=10
and answering as many of these as possible, that way somebody experienced at treating sick goldfish will be able to help you.
Please provide the following details when requesting help for Goldfish Problems: Test Results for the Following:
Ammonia Level?
Nitrite Level?
Nitrate level?
Ph Level, (If possible,KH and GH and chloramines)?
Ph Level out of the Tap?
Tank size (How many Gals) and How long has it been running?
What is the name and size of the filter/s?
How often do you change the water and how much?
How many fish in the tank and their size?
What kind of water additives or conditioners?
Any medications added to the tank?
Add any new fish to the tank?
What do you feed your fish?
Any unusual findings on the fish such as "grains of salt",
bloody streaks, frayed fins or fungus?
Any unusual behavior like staying
at the bottom, not eating, ect..?
In the meantime I will try to find you some more info too :)

Heres a thread on the use of salt
http://www.kokosgold...showtopic=60876
Salt can be a very effective QT treatment in that it wipes out a range of parasites (barring resistant strains of course), a concentration of 0.3% is the usual effective dose for treating parasites, for at least two weeks - sometimes longer. If dosing to 0.3% salt do this in three divided doses (0.1% increments at a time) over at least twelve hour intervals.
The dosing can be worked out two ways - either 1 gram of salt per litre (for example, a 100 litre tank would need 100 grams of salt to achieve a 0.1% concentration and then repeat that twice more to achieve a 0.3% concentration in total (3 grams per litre)
Otherwise, you can dose 1 Teaspoon per gallon of water to acheive 0.1% and work up to 0.3% over three divided doses (or if replacing already salted water 1 Tablespoon of salt per gallon is roughly 0.3%.
Pre-dissolve all salt in a litte tank water before dosing and take care with very small or debilitated fish, it can be dangerous.
Some people find a 1.5 -3% 2-5 minute salt dip before commencing QT helpful as it dissolves the slime coat (thus taking off the majority of bugs) before working up to the 0.3 % concentration, however this can be stressful but starts off a QT period well.
My understanding is that yes, prazi can be used on a prophylactic basis or for active treatment of flukes and a few other things (can't remember what). Some people on here do that during QT (if available where they live) Otherwise, wait for positive signs of flukes before treating.
I don't know too much about the lice question, but I think Dimillin (sp?) works well. I'll find a thread for you.
There is a medication in the US, called Parasite Clear which has a bit of prazi and some dimillin in it - not sure of it's available where you are. Thats pretty mild and can work well as a one-off paraiste/bug treatment during QT.
Hope this helps a bit. For more particular information, it's better to start your own thread with the relevent info :)

Though as praziquantel is not available here for fish, as such, if i were to use the basic drug, would you know whats the percentage to be used?

Sorry, I'm not sure about your prazi question.
It may be worth starting a new thread for any further queries in the diagnosis and discussion forum and people may be able to comment/help you further :)
