This is a finished tank stand for a 125 gallon tank I put together
with help from dad and his work shop. It's stained and varnished
to make it look purdy. :D

Nice work Paul, having access to a workshop is a great bonus, I have a workshop where I work and have done two stands. There is a great feeling of accomplishment when you DIY :D

Hope to see some pics when your tank is set up.

Thanks for the pics :)

Here's one without the stain. Constructed of 4x4's for the corners
and middle supports. 2x4's for the lower stability, and 2x6's for
the upper support and for the tank to rest on.

Here's a look at how the corner joints/bolts all went together.
Gotta make sure they go in at different levels, or they run into
each other.

Close up of the top part of the corner support. The knob that
is remaining, goes inside of the 2x4/2x6 frame.

Here's a look at the bottom corner cut out. These are snug
fit to get the 2x4's into.

Supplies used:

4x4x8'-2

2x4x8'-2

2x6x8'-2

3/8" lagbolts-40

3/8" washers-40

Colonial maple wood stain-1 pint

Semi-gloss varnish-1 quart

Total bill was around $50 (US)

It took 5 or 6 different days to put it all together including stain
and 3 layers of varnish with sanding included. The overall length
is 6'1/2" and width is 19". That gives you a 1/4" wider on each
side of the tank. The height is 26", this allows me to be able to
reach the bottom or back of the tank with out using a step stool.
Before placing the tank on the stand, I put wax paper down.
This prevents the tank becoming bonded to the stand and
impossible to seperate. :) Pics of the tank will arrive at some
point. I'm still playing around with it.

Paul, the stand looks real 'purdy' and solid as a tank (of the armoured variety). Well done!

$50 is money well spent, how much would a comparible stand cost to buy retail?

Thanks all. :) It's just a plain looking stand, so nothing to really
compare it to. I haven't found anything *yet* for a 125 gal
tank for prices, but one for a 75 gal was over the $50 mark at
Big Al's.com I could put doors on it if I wanted to, but like having
the open accessability underneath. This is the second
stand that we (pop and me) have put together. He figures we've
about got this down to a *science.* B)

One thing to remember when selecting wood, make sure every
board is straight-no warping/twisting. Try and pick surfaces that
don't have any printing on them or teeth marks from being handled.

Awesome job, Paul! :D

Looks like your no stranger to woodworking. I would sooooo love to have access to a workshop. Well, one near me anyway. I can go to my grandfathers and use his but that a road trip just to get there.

Tank Stand

Nice stand, wish i had room for one that big! I just built one also for my corner tank pentagon style. In the store they wanted $240 cdn for a stand and I built mine for $60 cdn.
